Mobile Android Software Development Engineer

 Position Description:

 Summary: Build applications on the next generation Android platform, write white box Android test harness/integration and functional tests, work closely with a talented team of Android engineers in rapic development and frequent interactions with the design team in the course of product refinement.

Develop and test Android applications to verify that they function according to specifications and standards by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Tests software  or applications to compare to specifications and documentation

Perform tests and provide timely test results to test engineers and test leads.

Identifies, analyzes, and documents defects, questionable functions, errors, and inconsistencies in embedded software program functions, outputs, online screens, and content.

Installs, maintains, and uses testing embedded software  programs

Work with the developers and test engineers to design test cases when needed

Work from verbal instructions and voice mail

Perform other duties as requested by primary test lead, test engineers

Establishes benchmarks for program efficiency in operating and response times

Creates and executes automated test scripts using testing other software programs

Contributes to establishment of standards and procedures for program design and testing

Recommends program improvements or revisions to programmers and system analysts

Reviews computer logs and reports to identify program processing errors and possible improvements

Identifies program variances from standards and suggests modifications to conform

Character defects when needed or directed by test leads or test engineers

Conducts compatibility tests with other software  programs, hardware, multiple operating systems, and network environments

Monitors program performance after implementation to prevent recurrence of program operating problems and ensure efficiency of operation

Documents, tracks, and communicates test results, analysis, and unresolved problems

Trains and supports users when needed


 Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's Degree (or greater) in computer science or equivalent discipline.

Must Have:

Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

Good understanding of the following:


Android architecture and components

Android Tools (ADB, DDMS ….)


Experience in programming for Android Platform.

Basic understanding about GIT

Create and execute white box/automated test cases

Basic knowledge in scripting /Unix shell.

Python experience is a plus.

Highly proficient in Java programming.

Self-motivated team player with a positive attitude.

Nice To Have:

Expertise in designing and building applications for Google's Android platform.

2+ years experience of development in embedded or mobile environments.

3+ years of work experience in White Box Testing 

Mastery of multiple programming languages.

Knowledge of the Android application lifecycle.

This person will also be expected to step in when the Global Point-of Sale Manager is out of town. This person also need to keep all people that are working on this project motivated and moving in the right directions.

This is a part time position and the hours can be flexible, could be either a couple days a week or 4 hours per day. There are two mandatory meetings on Wednesday afternoons.

Here is some background information on what the PRODUCT MANAGER is responsible for:

Responsible for design and development of POS support processes for systems installed at 4200+ retail locations, across all trade classes, in the US and Canada. Partners with Technical Support resources who implement these processes.
Works with stakeholders to ensure software releases contain solutions that address retailer demand, support marketing initiatives, and add value to the Client's Brand.
Manages strategic partners as they relate to the assigned POS product.
Develops/manages business relationships with key vendors.
Works in partnership with Procurement to leverage the relationships and improve the profitability of the business.
Negotiates strategic contracts associated with the product, e.g. software

The QA Engineer will be responsible for setting up and eventually managing a full QA department for the Data Director application. The Data Director QA team will need to grow significantly over the next several months and the QA Engineer lead be expected to define and begin a formal QA Process that integrates with the overall SDLC. Initially, the QA Lead will document and check test cases against new functionality developed for Data Director alongside building up a library of regression testing scripts for current modules.
