Under the general guidance of the Patient Access Supervisor, the Patient Access Representative – Financial Counselor is responsible for interviewing all patients admitted to the hospital as Self Pay. The incumbent is responsible to determine funding status and to make appropriate referrals to assistance programs. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for insurance eligibility and benefit verification for inpatient accounts, notification to payor UR based on contract requirements, and will work closeley with Case Management. The incumbent will calculate the patient repsonsiblity based on contract rates and will set appropriate Self Pay packages and payment plans in accordance to hospital guidelines. The incumbent will provide support to other Access areas such as the ED as needed. Will be responsible for establishing the visit for all patient types and for assigning a medical record number when appropriate. Must perform duties with accurancy, adhere to compliance standards, and provide excellent customer service and fiscal health. Will be expected to collect accurate demographic and financial information under strict confidentiality in compliance with EMTALA, HIPAA, and all applicable regulations.
